Not that you need an excuse, but today is a fine time to throw on Donuts, pour a nice cup of coffee, and read this bit about the highly influential album.

Peanut Butter Wolf: To me, Donuts was a combination of all different styles of music. Prog rock, sweet soul, early electronic music, you name it. It reminded me of how I always heard that hip-hop began with a select group of DJs in the Bronx trying to expose people to songs they’ve never heard regardless of genre rather than just playing whatever disco song was big at Studio 54 and the radio.

Kevin Durant - Superbowl Photographer

The biggest thing I learned is something I knew on a certain level … but didn’t know until tonight: that sports photography is hard work and it takes a lot of skill and focus in a crazy atmosphere with a lot of distractions. I have a ton of respect for the people who do this as a profession. I’ve got many more hours to put in, and I’m thankful to The Players’ Tribune and NFL.com for giving an amateur a foot in the door.

Jeremy Baye - hot rod builder

When I was skating, skateboarding was punk rock. When I was a little kid—11 or 12 years old—skateboarders were mostly punk rockers, and it was as if we were against the jocks [laughs]. It wasn’t like we hated each other or anything, but it’s just sort of like that’s what skating was…sort of the antiestablishment thing to do.

And then I started snowboarding. At the time, snowboarding was the anti-skiing; it was like, “We’re badass. We’re cooler than you are!”

And hotrods—the stuff that I like—are sort of the anti-everything. They’re different, and they’re badass. That’s why people like ’em, and like to look at them. They look unsafe, and that’s what scares people.

That’s sort of why you have one, because you’re thinking, “Man, that’s cool. That’s not the stock car. It’s different from what everybody else has.”

What Would Steve Rocco Do?

What was it about Powell that made you attack them. Why not attack Vision or Santa Cruz?
We never attacked any company. We only retaliated. First Powell ran an ad making fun of us small skater-owned companies. Then Vision demanded that our distributors cancel their orders and stop buying from us. That’s when I realized that business was war and these guys were out to get us. By that time I had loans to pay back and skaters to support. I had no choice but to fight back.

We publicly retaliated against Powell by running an ad making fun of ourselves for being stupid enough to have a skater owned company. And then making boards satirizing the Powell graphics we realized we could make lemonade from lemons. Retaliation against vision was more subliminal. We started a company with their main rider, Mark Gonzales. Mark wanted to do something that was the opposite of Vision so we called it Blind.

4-D Printing

In this case, the fourth dimension refers to time. The objects begin as a gel composite drawn onto a flat surface, then expand into a three-dimensional shape when submerged in water. The gel contains tiny fibers of cellulose, an organic compound found in plants. How these fibers are aligned determines their stiffness and the degree to which they'll swell when placed in water.
